Themes for your Halloween Party

You may be saying, "isn't the theme Halloween?"  Well, yes, and you get plan a superb party around the theme all things Halloween.

Or....

You can narrow down your theme a little more to some specific focus of Halloween, like just Zombies. There are two reasons (maybe more, I have two) for this.
   1. to make sure the party stays appropriate to your audience. You don't want slasher costume at a children's party. Sexy nurses might not go over well if you're inviting the boss (you know your boss, you be the judge.) A theme specific party keeps things safe
  2. to spice it up. Anybody can get a costume. If you have come dressed as you favorite movie character, or favorite horror movie character, a little more challenge.

That said here are a few ideas for specific themed Halloween parties:
 - Book/literary character theme. A safe party (unless you saw that episode of Fraser) even for children's parties or for a classroom event (you can tell the administrators that it is literary-based dress-up, not Halloween costumes).
 - Zombie theme. a favorite of mine. You can do some fun zombie stuff like group pictures or going out as a group.
 - Movie character theme. This can work for kids parties as well as adults. You can narrow it down to scary movie characters only. Do movie trivia during the party.
 - Naughty Halloween. Prizes for the sexiest costume.
 - Murder Mystery Party. These can be a lot of fun since there are so interactive, but this is for a smaller group of people, 8 to 12 or so. You can buy a Murder Mystery game or make one up yourself using Clue.
 - Multi-theme. If you have large house, use a different theme for different rooms, such as an Aloha room, a slasher room, a  Martian room, a haunted room, etc. Decorate each room different, show movies or play music for that room, serve appropriate drinks in that room, and so on.
 - Dead Musicians Society. Host a Hallowpalooza, have Karaoke, have guests dress up as their favorite dead musician.
